Concept: This arts-based seminar utilized the metaphor of “in vitro” to work in depth and in an isolated and protected learning environment. FNUG PhD students engaged with science education research themes through the prepared laboratory journal and staged setting. They had facilitated reflection on own learning, quality criteria and progress. The seminar blended performative elements with the laboratory interior, emphasizing the quality and assessment aspects of research.
Key Elements: Interactive lab journals, “in vitro” experiment metaphor, and role-specific lab setups, including lab coats.
Collaborators: Execution led by PhD Candidate Katrine Bergkvist Borch, with FNUG’s PhD candidates.
Audience or Impact: Created an immersive experience for emerging researchers, fostering a reflective and creative approach to science education research. The seminar was subsequently evaluated in an online group interview.
