    Duration: Varies
Date: July 2021 (Recorded), October 2023 (Exhibited)

  • Role: Artist and Researcher
  • Concept/Description:
Environmental Performance delves into the idea of non-human entities—ants, clouds, plants, and wind—as participants within performative assemblages. This video, recorded in the postnatural landscapes of Dueodde, Bornholm, frames non-human actors in “performance.” It reflects on how ants, weather, and plant life contribute to an unfolding, emergent choreography that transcends human-centered perspectives. Through my ongoing research, I explore how these elements are performers and mediators within their environment, as I see and document it.

Key Elements:
Filmed over a prolonged period, Environmental Performance captures the unpredictable interplay of ants, wind, and clouds as they navigate their surroundings. The aesthetics emphasize emergence and unpredictability, highlighting how non-human elements collectively shape and are ‘the environment’. This dynamic quality reflects a central theme of the work: that the natural world, with its interspecies communication and continuous flux, can be seen as an active stage for more-than-human performances.

Series:
This video is part of a broader series exploring themes of mediation and non-human agency, where environmental processes are viewed as performances.

Collaborators and Research Links:
The project aligns with my scholarly work on environmental performance, exploring how natural elements contribute to mediated experiences over time. You can read more about my research on Environmental Performance in this article, and view a related video here.

Audience or Impact:
Exhibited during the Open Video XVI event at ArtSpace Fyn/Kunstrum Fyn, this piece invites viewers to expand their understanding of agency and interaction beyond human perspectives. The project bridges my artistic practice with academic inquiry, contributing to discussions on more-than-human communication and ecological agency, thinking about human relationships with the natural world.
