Location: SAK Kunstbygning, Svendborg, Denmark
Date: September 9 – October 8, 2017
Medium: Video installation with mixed media projections on surfaces and tactile imagery
Dimensions: Variable, site-specific
Concept/Description:
The Exchange installation features three video pieces—Trampoline Angel (formerly Impetus), Itch, and Flaky Skin—alongside a mixed media collage on canvas. The installation explores exchanges that take place on surfaces and examines how boundaries and interfaces influence perception and our interactions with the world. (Duration: 15 minutes.)
- Trampoline Angel: A video filmed from below of a figure bouncing on a trampoline, which acts as a membrane. Dynamic movement and clothing that changes shape, creates layered distortions.
- Itch (Susanne Kern): A close-up video portrait of Susanne Kern scratching herself, highlighting skin as a sensory boundary. This act underscores vulnerability and our immediate connection to our surroundings.
- Flaky Skin (Michael Shanks): A close-up of Michael Shanks, also scratching himself. The portraits are placed side by side, creating a dialogue, while the vertical screen displays Trampoline Angel. A canvas collage on the back wall complements the installation with an image of the figure falling, tying together the theme of surface exchanges.
Key Elements:
